Overview

In the Backup/Restore section of StudioX Flow you can save the current settings of your BEASTX device to a file and load them back onto your device at any time. This is useful when you want to try out different settings and later return to your previous setup, when you want to transfer settings to another BEASTX device or when you want to share your setup with other pilots.

Please note: StudioX Flow only saves and restores settings that you have created yourself. Preset setups for specific helicopters, as known from StudioX Classic, are currently not available in StudioX Flow.

Choosing the backup folder

Backups are stored as files with the extension ".bxbackup" in a folder of your choice. You select this folder in the app settings:

  1. Open the menu (≡) and choose Settings.
  2. Click Choose folder next to Backup folder and select the folder you would like to use.

On smartphones and tablets a backup folder must be selected before you can create or restore backups. On iOS, StudioX Flow shows a hint with a Choose folder button on the Backup/Restore page, which takes you directly to the settings. If the folder is no longer accessible (e.g. because it was moved or renamed in the Files app), simply select it again.

On computers we also recommend selecting a backup folder, so you always know where your backups are stored. The folder currently in use is shown in the help text of the Backup/Restore page.

Backups are ordinary files. You can copy them, keep them in a cloud folder or send them to other pilots. To use a backup you received from someone else, simply copy the ".bxbackup" file into your backup folder. It will appear in the backup list automatically.

Creating a backup

Connect your BEASTX device and open the Backup/Restore page. Click Backup. A dialog shows information about the connected device: device type, serial number, firmware version, feature set and number of data points.

  • Filename: StudioX Flow suggests a filename consisting of device type, firmware version, date and time, e.g. "MBULTRA_5.9.0_2026-10-21_143000.bxbackup". You can change the name if you like.
  • Note: Optionally enter a note, e.g. the name of the helicopter or what you have changed. The first line of the note is shown in the backup list.

Click Save to create the backup. The new backup appears at the top of the list.

Managing backups

The list shows all backups stored in the backup folder, newest first. Each entry shows the device name, firmware version, device type, the first line of the note and the date the backup was created. Click an entry to select it.

To delete a backup, swipe the entry to the left and click the trash bin icon. On a computer you can drag the entry to the left with the mouse. The backup file is permanently removed from the backup folder.

Filtering by device type
The Backup filter above the list lets you show only backups of certain device types: MBPlus, MBUltra, Nano and AR7210BX. You can tick several device types at the same time. If no device type is ticked, all backups are shown.

Restoring a backup

Select a backup in the list and click Restore. A dialog shows the details stored in the backup (filename, creation date, device type, firmware, features, number of entries) as well as your note.

Compatibility check
StudioX Flow compares the backup with the connected device and shows the result in the dialog:

  • Backup is compatible with your device. – The backup was created with the same device type and the same tail drive.
  • Note: Backup was created for different device type. – The backup comes from a different BEASTX device. It can still be restored. Only settings that also exist on the connected device are transferred.
  • Warning: Backup was created for helicopter with different tail drive system. – One firmware is for a tail servo and the other for a tail motor. All tail-specific settings are skipped.

Choosing what to restore
Under Parameters to import the content of the backup is grouped into categories. The number in brackets shows how many values of this category can be applied to the connected device. Initially all categories are selected. Click a category to deselect or select it again:

  • Radio settings – settings of the RC system, e.g. receiver type, function assignment and failsafe
  • Basic settings – the settings of the setup menu, e.g. mounting orientation, swashplate and servo settings
  • Bank 1, Bank 2, Bank 3 – the flight parameters of the respective parameter bank
  • Other – all remaining values

Only categories that exist in the backup and on the connected device are offered. This way you can, for example, transfer only the flight parameters of one bank from another helicopter, or only the radio settings to a new device, while keeping all other settings as they are.

Click Restore to transfer the selected settings to your device. Afterwards StudioX Flow shows how many values were applied and how many were skipped. A value is skipped if

  • it does not exist on the connected device (e.g. because of a different device type or firmware version),
  • it belongs to a category you have deselected,
  • it is outside the range that is valid for the connected device, or
  • it is a tail-specific setting and the tail drive of the backup does not match.

If the settings cannot be transferred to the device, StudioX Flow discards the changes and reports all values as skipped. Check the connection and try again.

Important: After restoring a backup, especially one from another helicopter or another device type, check all control directions, servo center positions, servo throws and the mounting orientation of the device before flying!

Please note: Only backups created with StudioX Flow (".bxbackup") are shown. Restore points from StudioX Classic (".rsp") cannot be loaded with StudioX Flow.
