EXBUS is a very versatile protocol. Not only it can send control data to the flybarless system, it can also be used to transmit telemetry data and even display menu on the radio or JETI box. You can connect the EXBUS data line at different ports at your MICROBEAST or NANOBEAST. Make sure that the receiver output is set to EXBUS (not UDI, SPPM or else).

Using EXBUS to control your helicopter is possible with any of the BEASTX devices. Connect the receiver's EXBUS port with the DI1 / IO1 port of your BEASTX system using one of the provided standard servo wires.

For bi-directional telemetry connect the EXBUS signal wire either to the SYS port or to the DI2 port of your MICROBEAST PLUS / ULTRA. When using the DI2 port an adapter from standard servo connector to 5-pin JST is required as shown below.
(Picture SYS)
(Picture DI2)
MICROBEAST PLUS
The ESC or throttle servo is connected at DI1 port. If needed the telemetry data line from the ESC is connected to the CH5 port.
MICROBEAST ULTRA
The ESC or throttle servo is connected at IO1 port. If needed the telemetry data line from the ESC is connected to the IO2 port.
NANOBEAST
The ESC or throttle servo is connected at CH1 port. If needed the telemetry data line from the ESC is connected to the SAT port.

BEASTX setup
In order to use your EXBUS receiver you have to scan the input type in the RECEIVER MENU of your BEASTX device and set the correct channel ordering
for your radio system. By default the BEASTX system has a preset channel order that fits to most JETI radios. If needed you can change the channel ordering in RECEIVER MENU of the BEASTX system.
Channel | Function |
---|---|
CH1 | Throttle |
CH2 | Roll / Aileron |
CH3 | Pitch / Elevator |
CH4 | Thrust / Collective |
CH5 | Rudder |
CH6 | Gain |
CH7 | AttitudeControl (optional) |
CH8 | Governor (optional) |
CH9 | Aux channel (optional) |
(The optional functions are described in the section Optional features.)
MICROBEAST PLUS / MICROBEAST ULTRA
Push and hold the button on your MICROBEAST and power up the device. Menu LED A will flash instantly. Now release the button. Push again to start the scan process. When scan was successful, Menu LED B will show up. Now push and hold the button for 2 seconds and release in order to load the default channel assignments. If needed you can set up your telemetry devices at Menu LEDs L & M, if applicable; push button briefly to skip. Finally teach throttle failsafe position at Menu LED N by bringing the throttle in lowest position on your radio and push the button again. Now your MICROBEAST will start with init sequence. You can perform basic setup procedure in SETUP MENU when init sequence was completed. For further information about RECEIVER MENU setup, see next section.
NANOBEAST
When not using telemetry connect the EXBUS receiver to DI1 port and power up NANOBEAST. Connect the push button to SYS port. Push and hold the button for 2 seconds, then release. The Status LED will change color or go off. Push the button again to start the scan process. When scan was successful, the Status LED will flash twice. Now push and hold the button for 2 seconds and release in order to load the default channel assignments. Finally teach throttle failsafe position at Menu N (Status LED flashes long once and then 7 times) by bringing the throttle in lowest position on your radio and push the button again. Now your NANOBEAST will start with init sequence. For further information about RECEIVER MENU setup, see next section. Then perform basic setup procedure in SETUP MENU.
When using telemetry and connecting the EXBUS receiver to SYS port we can setup the receiver type in a different way:
Connect a JETI bind plug to the SYS port firstly and power up NANOBEAST. When Status LED is flashing red, remove the bind plug, so that the Status LED will flash slowly. Now remove power and connect your EXBUS receiver to the SYS port. Power up again, NANOBEAST should recognize the receiver and start with init sequence now. After init you can perform the setup using your JETI radio's JETIBox menu. If needed, you can connect the BLE2SYS or USB2SYS adapter later at anytime to the SYS connector, i.e. to perform firmware update, by removing the receiver when the system is off. When the receiver is not detected during power up within 5 seconds, the NANOBEAST will be available for normal SYS operation.
Setup with StudioX
You can also use the StudioX app to start receiver scan and perform further setup steps. In this case open the Control menu in StudioX and click the SCAN button in this menu's screen. Please note that when the EXBUS receiver is connected to SYS port on MICROBEAST PLUS / ULTRA, you must connect the BLE2SYS / USB2SYS adapter at the DI2 port using the optional adapter from standard servo connector to 5-pin JST. For further informations please refer to the StudioX instruction notes.
(Picture sys adapter!)
With NANOBEAST it's not possible to scan the receiver type from StudioX when the receiver is connected at SYS port. Here the receiver must be bound and set up by using the bind plug as shown above. |
